Where Are They Now?

Page updated 2nd April 2008.

We have already sent out some sixty two graduates from this college.

Some of them we have unfortunately lost touch with. Zambian communications are not the best in the world, and although the "bush telegraph" works surprisingly well, it is by no means infallible!

However, here is a list of our leavers, and wherever possible details of there current whereabouts and employment status:

Go To: SECOND INTAKE

Go To: THIRD INTAKE

Go To: FOURTH INTAKE

FIRST INTAKE (Jan 2003):

Zephaniah Banda.

Zephaniah is living near Ndola, and has returned to his former trade as a carpenter. He is temporarily helping us out at MFAZ with carpentry work and occasional assistance in our workshops.

Kennedy Chileshe.

Kennedy was employed by the Mpongwe Development Company in Mpongwe, working mainly on their large farm equipment and trucks. He has recently moved on, and is working at Kansanshi Copper Mine as a mechanic in their workshops, working on light and heavy vehicles, and heavy mine equipment.

Avis Chipalimali

Avis is working for First Quantum Minerals Ltd, the mining company in Ndola and elsewhere, working as mechanic and maintenance assistant.

Kelvin Chirwa

A huge disappointment to us, Kelvin is wasting his life, and the opportunity given him, away, despite being of above average intelligence. He is currently washing cars for a pittance in Kansenshi, Ndola.

Noel Kaluba

Last seen in Chifubu, Ndola, some time back Current status unknown.

Salim Kapalala

Salim was employed by Zamtel, the national telephone company. He was initially at their Ndola workshops, but was transferred elsewhere. However, he is now working for the Zambia Sugar Company, in their marketing department. We do not see this move away from mechanics as regrettable; he has moved up the ladder! A ladder whose first rung he could not even have reached before studying at MFAZ!

Andrew Litana.

Was employed at a prestigious garage in Pretoria, South Africa, since leaving us. He returned to Ndola, and planned to use his saved money to start his own garage workshop here. In fact Andrew is now assistant foreman mechanic at Ebenezer Mine.

Brian Masumba

Working for the mine near Ndola, "Bwana Mkubwa". He is now a self-employed taxi driver. His skills will be very valuable to him in this line of business.

Assen Mbulo

Employed since graduating with the local Baptist mission here in Ndola. Assen was our "Student of the Year", and is an exceptional character. I hope that his abilities are not being under-utilised in his current position. (We did offer him a job here, but he turned us down!)

Abel Musonda

Abel was assistant to Fanwell Nshimbami in our workshops. We sent him on a teacher training course, and he had begun to do some teaching of our first year students. Unfortunately personal family tragedy overcame him around the end of 2006, and he was unable to effectively carry out his duties here, so decided to resign. I (Charlie) met Abel in Ndola recently. He has applied to Kansanshi Mine, and we hope he will be successful.

Victor Mwangala

Employed at MDC, Mpongwe. His associates there, Kennedy and Ason have moved on (see their profiles separately).

Nelson Nyirenda

Initially employed at Baluba Valley Farm, the farm attached to, and supporting, Kaniki Bible College about 15km north of Ndola, Nelson is now working as a mechanic in Ndola. Our spies are still trying to find out where...!!

Akabondo Situmbeko.

Working for Safetech Security, as a guard, but also as maintenance assistant.

Ason Tonga

After MDC, where he worked along with Victor and Kennedy, Ason has gone to Kansanshi Copper Mine with Kennedy.

James Zimbili

We have unfortunately also lost touch with James, although a relative of his is known well to Charlie, and works in one of the hardware and electrical stores in Ndola. The uncle thinks he has either returned to his village in one of the remote parts of the country, or is in Lusaka, but does not know what he's doing. Since writing the above some time ago, we have discovered that James is indeed in Lusaka, working for the Government Ministry of Finance in their workshops as a mechanic.

SECOND INTAKE(Jan 2005)

Davies Bweupe.

Davies is working for Simon Holden of Holden Rigs Ltd, a drilling company working for the mines based in Luanshya. His   erstwhile colleagues there, Ospencio and Borniface have since move on.

Ignatius Chanda.

Ignatius works for Voyagers, a large Travel Agency and car hire company in Ndola.

Brent Chitendwe.

We've heard Brent is in Lusaka, but not sure what he's doing there

Jonas Kangwa.

We have recently been able to help Jonas to join First Quantum, the mining company. His prospects there are good as he will be trained into the position they need him to fill, so we pray he will distinguish himself.

Gershom Kikwubu.

Gershom was working for the mine in Chingola (About an hour and a half West of Ndola by car), but has left them to work for a private workshop.

Mishek Luchembe.

Mishek has returned to working with ZNAPH (Zambia National Association for the Physically Handicapped). Although they do not have their own workshops as such, Mishek is certainly making use of his skills looking after the Association's vehicles and as an instructor.

Joseph Mutale.

Again, recent news from Joseph is vague, but he is in Lusaka seeking work there.

Tony Mwelwa.

Tony was working for Orlando Vozza in Ndola, learning all about heavy goods vehicles, in particular their air systems. He unfortunately fell sick (not terminally!) but had to leave that job. We have got another job lined up for him when he's sufficiently recovered.

Richard Nyambe.

Still working at Ndola Central Hospital in their vehicle maintenance workshops, Richard has been there since graduating.

O'Brien Nyirenda.

Despite our attempts, there is still no news from O'Brien, we do not think he is employed.

Ospencio Phiri.

Since leaving Holden Rigs Ltd. (see Davies Bweupe above), Ospencio has gone self-employed and is running his own business.

Paul Samatungu.

Paul was successful in his application to Lumwana Mine in Solwezi (about 3 1/2 hours North West of Ndola by car), and is an assistant Mechanic there..

Benson Simuyemba.

Working was also working for the mine in Solwezi, but has moved to Lusaka where he is working as a mechanic.

Borniface Siwingwa.

Borniface has also left Holden Rigs Ltd. (see Davies Bweupe above), and now works as a salesman in an auto spares and accessories shop.

George Solopi.

George is still employed by the German Baptist mission, along with Assen Mbulo (see above).

Nedson Zimba.

The news from Nedson is that since doing piece work with his brother's, and other people's, cars, we were finally able to help him find employment at the end of 2007 with a rose-growing farm just outside Lusaka. His job is to look after all the farm machinery and vehicles, as well as other equipment including irrigation equipment.

THIRD INTAKE (Jan 2006)

Peter Banda

Peter is working as a mechanic in Lusaka

Samuel Chipili

Samuel is working for Kasembo Transport Ltd., a large trucking and transport company based here in Ndola. The Managing Director is a friend and member of NCF. Samuel is doing well in switching codes to Heavy Vehicles!

Neil Kayambwe

Working for Celtic Transport as a mechanic, also in Heavy Vehicles.

Jonathan Maluti

Jonathan was student of the year, and an outstanding student. We recommended Jonathan to a friend (and member of NCF) who is the farm manager for a large beef, lamb and chicken farm near Ndola. He is doing very well, and is likely to be promoted into a managerial position in time.

Saviour Matipisha

Saviour is self employed, working as a mechanic. As with other self-employed graduates he may not be in secure employment, but he is at least earning a living when he could not have before MFAZ!

Hellen Mutenda

We were proud of Hellen when she was immediately offered a job with Cummins (Zambia) in Ndola, where she did her industrial attachment. She was recently married (Congratulations, Hellen), and left employment when she gave birth (Congratulations again!), and is now a full time mother. We will try to find out if she intends to return to mechanics at any future time.

Nawa Mwiya

Nawa is employed by Copperbelt Earth Moving Ltd., a company operating large earthmoving and mining plant.

Gift Solochi

We helped Gift (and Lazarus Nyirenda) to gain employment at GoldenLay Ltd., a large commercial chicken farm not far from Ndola. Both are doing well.

Lazarus Nyirenda

Lazarus is with Gift, see immediately above.

Shuko Nyirenda

We have unfortunately lost contact with Shuko, but will post any news as soon as it's received.

Kenny Simfukwe

Initially Kenny returned to working with his father, Robinson, who runs a successful transport business. Robinson has two 10 ton tipper trucks and Kenny was a driver. Although we know his father, and have great respect for him, we are pleased that Kenny has moved on to become an assistant mechanic at Konkola Copper Mine, Chililabombwe, where he will better be able to further his career.

Samuel Siwila

Since graduating, Samuel has been employed as assistant mechanic in our own workshops, as replacement for Abel.
